New Bus Service!!

Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire have announced that from Monday next, 3 September, they will be introducing an extra bus service, departing Lancaster at 17:00 and arriving Whittington at 17:46.

This is really good news because, at the present time, the last bus from Lancaster to Whittington leaves Lancaster at 15:45. The new bus therefore allows passengers and additional one hour fifteen minutes before having to leave.

Obviously the bus also provides an opportunity to take a later service to Kirkby than is currently available. At the moment the last bus is 16:31 from Whittington. With the last bus from Kirkby Market Sq leaving at 20:15 and arrive in Whittington at 20:22.

We have received the message below, all the way from Germany. Can anyone who was around in 1988 remember who lived at 2 Croft View in 1988. Who had the pub in those days? If you have any information, please let me know.

Hello to all,

I`m from Germany and 30 years ago I have spend 3 weeks in the pub and my friend and me have had a great time there. 2 days ago I came back to the Dragons Head try to find out if I can find some people who I met in 1988 there.
After our time there in the pub (I was there with Andy and we came there with 2 motorbikes) all the people in the pub gave a farewell party for us. The party was organized by the 2 girls, I think one was Amanda, and her mother was a teacher. They lives at the two croft view house at the main street.
When I stood on Saturday before the pub I saw that the pup is closed. No one lives in Amanda’s house anymore.
Can someone else remember? Can someone else remember? It was just a great time and I would have liked to meet Amanda and her sister.
Greetings from Germany

That fund of information, Gerald Hodgson, supplemented by Phylis Pinch has provided some valuable information. The mother was Sarah Blundell, and she taught at Ripley School in Lancaster,

In fact they actually lived in Holker House, next door to 2 Croft View Cottages, The daughters were Amanda and Louisa.

Both Gerald and Phylis tell me that the family moved to Claughton, to that cottage that has the old railway signal box in the garden. The house stands on the railway line which was removed by Dr Beaching.

Morecambe to Malham

Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire bus driver, Colin Kennington, has produced a superb video (9 minutes long) of the Dalesbus Service 881, which his company operate between Morecambe and Malham, via Whittington and Kirkby Lonsdale.

The video is well worth watching, and demonstrates how lucky we are that KLCH have returned a service to Whittington.

The bus picks up in Whittington at 9:23 On Sundays, between 1st April and the 21st October 2018. It arrives in Malham at 10:50 and returns, leaving Malham at 16:05 arriving at Whittington at 17:32. It is possible to stop off elsewhere on the route and get a later bus, which starts at Ingleton. Click Timetable for the options.

Finally, there is a 39 minutes long version of this video with, naturally, many additional views taken on the route. Click on THIS link to view.

Enjoy.
